Blockchain technology has been around for a while already: in 2024 it has its 16th official birthday, yet the ethical questions surrounding this technology have not had as much attention as other branches of technology-oriented ethics. This does not mean that there are no ethical problems in Blockchain: quite on the contrary. From transparency to auditability, from privacy to sustainability, from justice to diversity and inclusion, Blockchain ethical dilemmas represent a wide range of issues that need to be discussed and addressed by both academics and practitioners. The Blockchain Ethics conference aims to contribute to this debate by presenting the first official European Ethical Guidelines for Blockchain Systems where the authors of these guidelines, cybersecurity experts, members of Artemisa project and other stakeholders will together contribute to bring clarity and consensus on this very important topic.
