Last April 30, Enric Urreta, president of the 22@Network Barcelona association, recived the Gran Margaló 2023 Award for the association's contribution to the international projection of the 22@ innovation district.

The palmera awards, Gran Margaló, are born with the intention of giving relevance to innovations and technologies, promoting digital projects and scientific innovation companies, at the same time that they add value to the city of Castelldefels.

The value of palm trees in the first human communities includes: food, not only the direct consumption of fruits and margallons, but also the preparation of drinks and oils; the importance of technology, the manufacture of tools for domestic use, hunting and fishing, and crop work; cover the basic needs of subsistence and obtaining multiple resources and materials; the cultural importance in rituals, ceremonies and personal adornment for parties including cosmetic uses.

Data taken from the study that is part of the PALMS project, of the working group in Botany of the seventh framework program of the European Union. The typical palm tree linked to Castelldefels is: Margaló, hence the name of the awards.

The jury formed by Gaudir de Castelldefels, with the participation of the Castelldefels Town Council, decided to award the following prizes, in an emblematic setting, the Club Nàutic de Castelldefels:

Gran Margaló 2023 Award, in communication. Mr. Andreu Veà i Baró, for his passion for communication and improving our lives with #covidworriors and many other projects.

Gran Margaló 2023 Award, in technology. Lux Quanta SL., for the European projection of quantum technology.

Gran Margaló 2023 Award, for innovation. 22@Network Barcelona, for the global projection as an innovative district.
